Artist Statement

2007
I became a feminist, as a young woman, when I chose to give up the traditional role of housewife & became a full time artist & art teacher.  Fortunately, this change in life style, had a positive influence on my relationships with myself & my two sons.

The exciting process of Clay Monotype, a technique of Printmaking with liquid clay slip on fabric, evolved from my long art career in ceramics and printmaking.  My ink or paint is made from kaolin clay mixed with water & blended with pure organic & inorganic pigments.  These slips are applied to a leather hard stoneware clay slab in various techniques & then the images are transferred by hand, onto non-woven fabrics such as Pelon or industrial Reemay.

My abstract compositions are intuitive, drawing from conscious & unconscious imagery.  A reflection of my spiritual nature emerges in subtle forms in a minimalist style combined with visual texture.  Looking deeply into the texture, each viewer will see the images they choose to see.

A historical reference develops from the many layers of clay slip & from previous compositions. Current global issues & the pursuit of spiritual freedom are major influences in my work.

In all this time, I remain humble to the realization that art is about the process of creation more than it is about a finished product.
