MEDALLIONS, MANDALAS AND MAGIC CIRCLES

The medallions are a continuation of my extensive exploration of circular forms in painting and sculpture.  They are psychocosmograms, round and perfect zones made from imperfect fragments.  They symbolize the sun, the wheel, the disk. The breast, yoni, clock face, the eye.
These small sculptures are made from found objects: plates, platters, bowls, stove parts, broken ceramics, metal parts, etc.  They take the form of breast plates, sometimes masks and other centering imagery that hang on the wall, sit on a small easel or lay on a table.

The images are domestic, feminine, nurturing, and healing.  Making them is a ritual.
