Artist Statement
I work in many materials, frequently in metal, but also in wood, fiberglass and resin. Over time, my subject matter and scale has included small personal sculptures, often jewelry or celebratory objects, to life-sized abstract figurative and monumental sculptures.
There are two sides of thought represented in my work. The largest sculptures speak to the environment, and to our place as willful, active participants with responsibility to insure the health of the earth. My intention in carving skeletal elements of endangered and extinct species from wood is to confront us with the life and death consequences our actions have for other animals. Another side of my work celebrates the good and joyful in people, as represented in my Bold Women series.
I have exhibited extensively throughout the United States and Northern California since 1976. I am represented by SculptureSite Gallery in San Francisco and Wildwood Sculpture Garden in Sonoma County. My work is in the permanent collections of both The Oakland Museum and also the Bolinas Museum, and in hundreds of private collections.
