Artist Statement
I am . . .
After decades of editing and writing, the craving to make art came like a tidal wave. So much to do, so much to catch up on.
What is my medium? Everything, let’s try it all. Now, I love oils; and pastels; and watercolor, and clay. And each one fits different ideas. I want to do a painting of my husband’s great great grandmother, an ancient woman sitting in a field in Norway, I think. And mull, and look at photos, and then, I wake one morning and know that her portrait must be sculpted in clay. A young woman full of passions quickly changing is captured in watercolors swirling to match the temperatures and moods that play on her skin. That marvelous red striped pear wants grounding in brilliant oils or celebration in shouting acrylics.
Art is . . .
. . . very fun to do. Essential to the human spirit. Crucial to civilization. The thing that can center us all. One of the gifts that make life exhilarating, inspiring, worthwhile.
