Artist Statement

Virginia’s paintings, prints, collages, drawings, books, words and art objects demonstrate in bold, colorful, passionate images an intuitive inquiry into the subconscious and pre-verbal mind.  The work reveals the beautiful as well as suffering. It encourages both internal reflection and active response to numerous sociological and aesthetic issues including violence, spirituality, and the transformative power of art and creativity.

"Selecting from available materials I intuitively make sense of a world that seems to be out of balance, crazy and unintelligible. In my work I am continuously re-discovering a personal language that communes with a timeless, subjective and eternal wisdom. Through art I am able to claim the power of my own language; the language of the unspeakable."

Virginia has been actively pursuing a creative practice in a variety of mediums since the 1970s. She has exhibited her work and taught ‘creativity’ workshops in both the USA and Australia since 1982.  She is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Transformative Learning and Change at California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco
