Artist Statement
“Not I, not I, but the wind that blows through me.” – D. H. Lawrence
I am tri-cultural with roots in Argentina, Israel and the United States.
My life has been a journey through a variety of cultures - diverse, contradicting, confusing, enriching. I’ve been exposed to a potpourri of beliefs and guidelines, which made me question it all. I walked a path of searching for my own answers, inhaling, digesting the information that resonated as my truth. My life has been an exploration of unity in diversity - seeking the deep underlying commonalities and connections in seemingly disparate worlds.
I work in both clay and stone. I come to a medium with an urge to reinvent the medium itself. I push it beyond the accepted properties and qualities of the material. I engage with it in a collaborative dialogue - respecting each other, forming a partnership of equals pushing to bring out the unusual, the unexpected. This process challenges me to grow beyond the known, to become better at each encounter. I often feel the work is creating me. My task is to be fully present, then get out of the way, allowing the work to come through me. The process is enveloping and organic.
By examining the conventional, the acceptable, the norm, I have pushed boundaries, redefined and stretched them both in my life and in my art.
