Artist Statement
My sculptural concepts and perspectives grew out of a fascination with Addictive systems and society.
In addition to substance abuse, a pattern of process addictions evolved in contemporary society. These process addictions include compulsive eating, gambling, working and sexual behaviors. Consumerism perpetuates the problem because many companies are supported by these “addictive systems.”
In a sculptural format, using icons of popular culture, my sculpture, “Picking Up the Pieces” explores the characteristics of addiction and the challenges of recovery.
