Artist Statement
Our concepts of marriage, family, and women's roles are undergoing change. Marriage is no longer a prerequisite for success. A woman can be single or divorced, a mother or not, and not judged to be a failure as a woman. No longer need she be bound and imprisoned in the cage of the myths of marriage.
Amma's Chair Series has strong feminist undertones. In The Glass Ceiling, the sitting female has her head in her hands in an oppressed or hopeless attitude. Yet there is the hint of a powerful heritage in her feathered arm band.
