Artist Statement
I kept finding ikons suggestive of battered children, in the street, on the beach, in the mudflats. Even the box, the shelter, was broken in by some violent blow. The piece created itself, bit by bit, intent on giving voice to the children, seeking to spark the pangs of the heart that call people to action and motivate change, as art can do so effectively.
