Artist Statement
War Bride is in response to the US ombing and war in Iraq. The creative process, in this case, tearing, layering, building and taking apart, somehow gave voice to the despair, frustration, and grief I felt at the time. I was thinking about the women and children in Iraq, feeling helpless. I knew they and women around the world were feeling so much more than I was. This piece is for them. It is in these moments that creativity gives voice to the grief and suffering we feel in the world.
