BREAKING NEWS! EXCLUSIVE CURATORIAL TOUR OF BROWN PALMS, YELLOW BALMS AT SOMARTS: MAY 16

NCWCA members are invited by AAWAA (Asian American Women Artists Association) for an exclusive curatorial tour of "Brown Palms Yellow Balms" exhibition at the SOMArts Cultural Center. This exhibition is co-presented by AAWAA and APICC (Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center) for the 28th Annual United States of Asian American Festival.
About: The Brown Palms, Yellow Balms exhibition unfolds in ever-expanding circles of caregiving, mirroring the Buddhist Metta practice—beginning with the body as the most intimate site of care and spiraling outward to embrace family, community, collective archetypes, deities, and the environment. Immerse yourself in depictions of nurturing, nursing, birthing, mothering, mending, comforting, restoring, resuscitating, protecting, soothing, cheering, reclaiming, and empowering—not just the Self, but Society and the Cosmos—all viewed through the lens of AAPI cultural heritage, history, and socio-political landscapes.
When: Friday May 16 at 5:30 PM
Where SOMArts Cultural Center, 934 Brannan St, San Francisco

MAY 17 SECOND NATURE, ANNETTE GOODFRIEND CURATORIAL TOUR

Second Nature features work by three Northern California artists: Annette Goodfriend, Ruth Tabancay, and Esther Traugot. Straddling the line between art and science, these artists craft dream-like representations of the natural world. Using varied media, ranging from organic materials such as insects, urchin shells, and tea bags to industrial steel and rubber, Goodfriend, Tabancay, and Traugot examine the changes human activity has wrought upon the world, and the need to better care for all the planet’s creatures.
