LAURA ABRAMSALEANA ORTEGAELEANOR RUCKMANCalavera de la Tierra
Calavera face is approximately 7'h x 6'w. Spooky and silly, fun and sad. A biodegradable Halloween decoration playing with the many plastic skeletons down the street. An altar honoring human beloveds who have passed in the past year: Jocinda Fleeson Gaynor, Daniel Woodruff, Allyn Spence. George Bertlestein. Tree stumps are altars, the dusty dry dirt is an offering, mourning flowing water and healthy forests cut down for human development. Amid all the brown, marigolds add some color, as do scraps of colorful plastic trash. What is our legacy? Materials: Brought to site: Diatomaceous earth; charcoal powder from sacred fire; fresh and dried marigold; dried calendula, yarrow and statice flowers; sandstone for writing. Found onsite: White and black rocks; sticks and branches, feathers; pine cones; terra cotta pipe; rusted ax blade; concrete pieces; assorted plastic trash. Tools used: small and large rake.
