NCWCA IN 2019
GHOST RANCH ART TAG RESIDENCY
by Mary Shisler
The 2019 NCWCA Ghost Ranch Art Tag Residency from September 8 - 15, 2019 was developed to engender a greater conceptual collaboration between the artist players of Art Tag, build a greater community bond as well as grant residency experience to those who desired it. The nineteen participants of the residency were extremely pleased with the experience and produced a beautiful show of their work.
The residency allowed participants to stretch their skills while building close relationships with the other participants. For example, Sally Allen developed her skills in off press printmaking as did others. Mary K. Shisler altered a book. Everybody hiked.
The astonishing beauty of the Valley of the Shining Stones (Ghost Ranch) produces an almost predictable awe in first time viewers. The effect of it stunned many of the taggers at first and then they put their hiking boots on and went exploring. It was perfect for a great deal of plain air painting. We even had a magnificent full moon which stimulated Anne Ingraham and Sushma Kothari.
The residency ended with an art show in the Art Center Gallery which included work from every participating artist. The main work room accommodated other work. Judy Johnson-Williams led a final critique for the benefit of the participants.
Many of the participants stayed at the Coyote Lodge and the other participants also came to enjoy the evening talks. Judy Johnson-Williams often led impromptu discussions of life and art. One that was particularly memorable was a campfire talk where the artists gave their personal history of becoming artists.

F213 NCWCA CURATORIAL EXHIBITION
F213 is short for Fahrenheit 213, one degree above the boiling point of blood. This exhibition brought together nearly 100 national and Bay Area feminist artists and writers who were incensed about what is currently happening in the United States. F213's exhibition and events ran from April 13 - May 11, 2019 at Arc Gallery, 1246 Folsom Street, San Francisco. The exhibition and events were organized by NCWCA's curatorial collective: Tanya Augsburg, lead curator; Karen Gutfreund, Priscilla Otani and Sawyer Rose, co-curators; and Ariana Davi, curatorial apprentice. F213 is documented in detail on the subpages of our 2019 Events page.
