April 4 Carolyn Tillie Curatorial Tour of "Mixed Emotions Reflections on Death, Dialogue, and Dinner During COVID-19"

Picture
On Tuesday, April 4  at the ACCI Gallery, 1632 Shattuck Blvd, Berkeley, Carolyn Tillie treated NCWCA members to a wonderful curatorial tour of her solo exhibit and afternoon tea.  (Above photos by Carolyn Tillie)

"
The exhibition is an installation of a dinner table and kitchen which includes over 100 pieces I have prepared. In short, I cut apart a vintage cookbook (the 1909 edition of The Whitehouse Cookbook) and, in a Duchampian act, reapply those cut words to kitchen items that have been inherited by friends whose parents or grandparents have passed away during the pandemic. The exhibit is an homage to all those shared meals with loved ones (including my own 20-year old stepson and a beloved sister, both of whom passed away last year), that will never get to be eaten and prandial conversations that will never be spoken."  Carolyn Tillie
