CURATORIAL TOUR OF MEMBER SOLO SHOWS

A solo exhibition is an important milestone in an artist's career. We encourage members to plan and organize curatorial tours of their solo exhibitions. It is an opportunity to get your artwork seen and to present your body of work. If you would like to organize a curatorial tour for NCWCA members, please follow these procedures. We strongly urge you to plan ahead (approximately 1- 1.5 months before your show opens) to account for the approval and publicity process.

1. You must be a current NCWCA member and the exhibition must be a solo show of your artwork. No more than one tour will be approved for each month, first come, first served. No more than one tour per artist, per calendar year will be approved.  If someone else is selected ahead of you, you can still publicize your exhibition through News & Notes.

2. Check the NCWCA calendar and select a date and time that is open (no other NCWCA activity): https://www.ncwca.org/ncwca-calendar.html

3. Contact laura[at]ncwca.org to indicate you want to organize a curatorial tour. Give her the details about your show such as name of exhibition and description, venue and address, and date/time selected for your tour.  She will check the calendar, check your membership status, and determine if your proposed tour meets our requirements. If all looks good, she will approve your request.

4. At the next chapter meeting, present and publicize your curatorial tour during Open Forum.

5. After approval and announcement at the Open Forum, email laura[at]ncwca.org, chandrika[at]ncwca.org and mrpotani[at]ncwca.org with the following mandatory information:
  • Title of exhibit
  • Brief description of the exhibition
  • Name and address of gallery
  • Date and time of curatorial tour
  • One jpg image of the show or artwork
  • Your email and phone number
  • How to RSVP
You may provide additional information, such as a coffee, lunch or dinner before/after the tour, meet-up location and carpool instructions. But at the minimum, you must provide all of the mandatory information in order for NCWCA to publicize your event. Laura will send a chapter mail to all members, Chandrika will set up a social media post, and Priscilla will add the event to the website. Members will be prompted to respond to you directly for questions and RSVPs.

6. You are responsible for organizing the visit to your exhibition, responding to member questions, and giving the curatorial tour.

7. If photos are taken at the event, please send them to chandrika@ncwca.org and mrpotani@ncwca.org. Photos will be added to the website and social media.
