NCWCA MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
APPLICATIONS OPEN NOW!
CONGRATULATIONS DE YOUNG ARTISTS!
NCWCA is thrilled to announce the selection of six of its members to be included in the de Young Open! Works by Mague Calanche, Marie Cameron, Chandrika Marla, Jessica Phrogus, Danielle Satinover, and Diane Williams are among the 881 selected artworks out of over 10,000 submitted.
To celebrate it’s 125th anniversary, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco is hosting The de Young Open, a juried community art exhibition. It welcomed over 10,000 submissions by artists who live in the nine Bay Area counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma. The open call entries were curated by a jury led by Burgard and Ednah Root, curator in charge of American art, which included artist judges Hung Liu, Mildred Howard and Enrique Chagoya.
These works will be hung “salon-style” in the 12,000-square-foot Herbst Exhibition Galleries. This is the first exhibition of this scale and kind at the Museums.
In a longstanding tradition of engaging local community and supporting Bay Area artists, the de Young will offer these artists wider recognition as well as 100 percent of sales proceeds. Personally, I’m excited to see a focus on our “own” local art communities. I hope that this is the beginning of new de Young tradition that will include frequent calls of this kind to spotlight the Bay Area’s unique art and cultural legacy.

Today marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.
In 1970, 20 million Americans peacefully demonstrated to protect our planet and for environmental policy reform, marking the beginning of the modern environmental movement and spurring the enactment of some of the most effective national environmental policy. Fifty years later, Earth Day is now a global event and the movement’s legacy educates and mobilizes more than one billion people to grow and support the next generation of environmental activists.
Today is also perfect time to view The Ground Upon Which We Stand Exhibition, a regional juried exhibition sponsored by the Northern California Women's Caucus for Art (NCWCA) in collaboration with the Abrams Claghorn Gallery.
Envisioned to coordinate with Earth Day 2020, The Ground Upon Which We Stand features 78 artists speaking out about the sacredness of the land and the importance of standing your ground in this era of climate change and a global health crisis.

2014 Board Retreat at Pescadero

The board had a wonderful retreat at Irma Velasquez's Pescadero ranch on January 6. We reviewed our 2013 goals, which amazingly were exceeded in many ways. We discussed ways to nurture membership growth, build more involvement, and nurture our chapter community. We also have some exciting goals for 2014 that involve a workshop day at Djerassi, applying for the SOMArts curatorial grant in the Fall, engaging collectors, developing our PR bench strength and many more.
